About Brett’s First Responders
Brett’s First Responders aims to provide support to 1) families of fallen off-duty first responders; and 2) families enduring significant financial hardships due to a tragic circumstance of an off-duty first responder.
Brett A. Korves, born March 9, 1989, was the second of three children born to Jack and Shelly (nee Tribout) Korves. He had an older sister Kayla and a younger brother Todd. Brett married his best friend Alex Korves in October 2015 and became a father to Brock in 2017. Brett was living his best life; he had a loving wife, a beautiful son, and a wonderful extension of family and friends.
On April 4, 2019, Brett was fatally injured in an automobile accident on his way to work. Brett managed to carry a full-time job, in addition to being an active community member. Most notably, he was a third generation and 10 year veteran of the Swansea Fire Department and Swansea Fire Department Cadet Program, and was even recognized in 2012 with Fireman of the Year.
Brett was also very passionate about stock car racing and had a following of loyal fans. Brett #25 was Track Champion at Belle Clair Speedway in Belleville, IL in 2018 and a member of AARA. He was always ready to help, working many local church and homecoming picnics each year through the Tribout family business.
In addition to his son Brock who was 18 months old at the time of the accident, Brett and Alex had just started trying for a second child. Just two weeks after Brett’s passing, Alex found out that she was expecting a “miracle” baby. Baby girl Brett, named after her father, was born in December 2019.
To honor their beloved brother’s legacy, Kayla and Todd created Brett’s First Responders in late 2019 to provide support to families of fallen or seriously injured off-duty first responders and develop a scholarship program for individuals seeking to become a firefighter. To date, the foundation has already been able to donate over $12,000 to families and thousands of helpful items including: food, clothes, diapers, laundry detergent, and more to the Crisis Nursery of St. Louis.
Bretts First Responders
Brett’s First Responders is working to get our mission out to as many first responder departments as possible. We have been mailing and handing out stickers with our logo and missions. Our goal is to see how many first responders will answer our call. This map shows all the places we have left information at and the first responders and departments who have benefitted from our work.
